Object Details

Representatives Richard Nash Elliott and John Philip Hill voted in an unofficial 1923 poll about Prohibition. An outspoken “wet,” Hill made his own wine that year. In 1924, after fermenting hard cider, he threw a party, serving 65 gallons of cider to more than 500 guests. The Washington Post called the shindig a “public drinking bee.”
