This bust is one of hundreds made in 1932 for Congressman Sol Bloom and given to Members of Congress to honor George Washington’s 200th birthday. Long before he entered the House, Bloom supervised the popular attractions at the World’s Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893. Bloom’s talents gave him latitude in directing the United States George Washington Bicentennial Commission. He planned publications, posters, pageants, and had plaster busts of Washington made for each Representative, Senator, and Governor.
