A rendering of the planned new House Office Building—now the Cannon House Office Building— was published in Harper’s Weekly in 1903. This project was big news at the time, since it would provide office space for all Members of Congress for the first time. The design of the building, executed in the Beaux- Arts style, was meant to harmonize with, and not overshadow, the neighboring Capitol.
