Object Details

The view from atop the Capitol made for an effective stereoview photograph. When viewed through a stereoscope, the two images merged into a 3-D image that gave the viewer a sense of standing on the building’s parapet. The photographer of this example framed the image over the top of the Capitol’s Senate wing and off into the northwestern reach of New Jersey Avenue.
