Object Details

Clerks on the House rostrum routinely use stamps such as this one. They mark bills passing through the legislative process, from introduction through final vote, to indicate their status. The mark could be “pass” or “lost” or, in the case of this particular stamp, “HOUSE,” for legislation that originated in the House of Representatives rather than the Senate.
