Object Details

George H. Tinkham, a Representative from Massachusetts, was an avid big game hunter, preferring safaris to campaigning. Nonetheless, he was re-elected many times and served in the House from 1915 to 1943. Tinkham opposed Prohibition and advocated for Black voting rights in the South. In this portrait, he sits in the midst of his hunting trophies, which he nicknamed after his political opponents.
