BURCH, Benjamin, a Doorkeeper from Maryland; born in Prince George’s County, Md., May 9, 1761; served in the Revolutionary War; District of Columbia Militia, 1807; served in the U.S. Army in the War of 1812; landlord; staff, Office of the Doorkeeper, United States House of Representatives, 1809–1821; member, District of Columbia common council, D.C., 1820–1822; elected Doorkeeper of the United States House of Representatives for the Seventeenth Congress and for the four succeeding Congresses (December 4, 1821–December 7, 1831); died on May 5, 1832, in Washington, D.C.; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
