In the letter, Thomas Jefferson describes the current and future business of the Congress including ratification of the peace treaty, difficulty in conducting business with many members absent, and the threat of war between Russia and Turkey and its effects on foreign affairs.

A letter from Edmund Pendleton to William Woodford written on March 16, 1776. In the letter, Edmund Pendleton discusses the resignation of Patrick Henry citing Patrick Henry's desire to be a general and his blaming the Virginia Committee of Safety when he failed to obtain that post. Edmund Pendleton denies the Committee ever mentioned Patrick Henry in connection with the general's post. Edmund Pendleton also denies he tried to prevent Patrick Henry's promotion. The letter also contains information about brigadier's [Andrew] Lewis and [Robert] Howe who obtained their commissions, and states that [Charles] Lee is to go to Canada to command eight thousand men.
