LAGOMARSINO, Robert John, a Representative from California; born in Ventura, Ventura County, Calif., September 4, 1926; attended the public schools of Ventura ; B.A., University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, Calif., 1950; J.D., University of Santa Clara Law School, Santa Clara, Calif., 1953; admitted to the California bar in 1954; lawyer, private practice; United States Navy, 1944-1946; member of the Ojai City, Calif., Council, 1958; Mayor of Ojai, Calif., 1958-1961; member of the California state senate, by special election, 1961-1974; delegate, California state Republican conventions, 1961-1974; delegate, Republican National Convention, 1968 and 1984; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Charles M. Teague, and reelected to the nine succeeding Congresses (March 5, 1974-January 3, 1993); unsuccessful candidate for renomination to the One Hundred Third Congress in 1992; died on February 7, 2021, in Ojai, Calif.; interment at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, Calif.

Papers: 1961-1992, 350 linear feet. The papers of former Congressman Robert Lagomarsino document his service as a California State Senator (1961-1974) and as a United States Representative (1974-1992). The manuscript material contents include more than 8,000 file folders of correspondence, rare publications, ephemera, newsletters, newspaper articles, congressional bills, voting records, speeches, and press releases that document such notable events as the Watergate Hearings and the crash of the Space Shuttle Challenger. The materials address a wide range of such significant issues from the recovery of POWS and MIAs in Southeast Asia to offshore drilling in California. The collection also consists of over 500 artifacts; approximately 4,000 photographs; 10 cassette tapes of interviews; 20 short film videos; 23 newsreel films; over 200 unique gifts and memorabilia; and numerous special collection books, photographs, and autographs. One special feature of this collection is that it contains rare special reports made by U.S. observation delegations during their world travels, addressing international state of affairs in Central America, the Middle East, the Far East, and the Soviet Union.
