HENDON, William Martin, a Representative from North Carolina; born in Asheville, Buncombe County, N.C., November 9, 1944; attended the public schools; graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, 1962; B.S., University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 1966, and M.B.A., 1968; University of Tennessee faculty member, 1968-1970; businessman, 1970-1980; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-seventh Congress (January 3, 1981-January 3, 1983); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1982 to the Ninety-eighth Congress; elected to the Ninety-ninth Congress (January 3, 1985-January 3, 1987); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1986; fellow, American Defense Institute, Washington, D.C.; died on June 20, 2018, in Forest City, N.C.
