Pictured here crossing the tape as a member of the Marquette University track team, Ralph Metcalfe was a household name as an Olympic medalist long before he came to Congress. Metcalfe was elected to the House in 1970 and served until his death in 1978. He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus in 1971.
