Artist Boris Gordon was a popular portrait painter in Washington. The House ultimately acquired 10 of Gordon’s works between 1919 and 1959. This portrait of Rivers and Harbors Committee Chairman Joe Mansfield is typical of his House paintings, with the subject in three-quarter-length view, seated in a chair against a brown background.
