Dear Mrs. Campbell, arrived home about six weeks ago. Had to wait until Apr. 16 for car repairs in Miami. We had a fine trip home—13 days—some very rough road over the Cumberland Mts. In Ky. We are in the midst of corn flowing now & have good crop prospects. With all good wishes, I am, Sincerely yours, Paul J. Campbell.”/tiles/collection/2/23171.xml

Object Details

“Uncle Joe” Cannon, the 20th century’s most powerful Speaker, was a bona fide celebrity. Several postcard views of Cannon’s house in Danville, Illinois, circulated widely during his years of fame. In an era when the houses of notable men were popular subjects in the postcard-crazed nation, such images were printed because of the occupant’s prominence, not the house’s grace or grandeur.
