A four-cent postage stamp commemorating Sam Rayburn was first issued in a ceremony in his hometown of Bonham, Texas, on September 16, 1962, less than a year after his death. The date marked the 22nd anniversary of his first election as Speaker. Designed by Robert L. Miller of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the stamp includes a brown-tinted portrait of Rayburn with a blue Capitol in the background.
