Object Details

Local Washington photography studio J. Jarvis took this stereo photograph of the elaborately decorated Member’s Retiring Room, a space created in 1879. The stylish furniture, intricately patterned tile floors, and bronze light fixtures of the large and well-appointed lounge space would have been an appealing addition to Jarvis’ images of the Capitol, available for sale just a block away on Pennsylvania Avenue.
