The House Restaurant used this sturdy but attractive custom china in the 1920s. A medallion with an image of the Capitol with its original dome surrounded by a ring of stars, all printed in red, decorates the edge. Red and blue stripes ring the plate’s circumference. Shenango China, a Pennsylvania company that produced commercial tableware, made this plate for Dulin and Martin Co. of Washington, DC. The latter had recently designed a state service for President Woodrow Wilson, the first White House china made in the United States.
