Description
This memorial from the legislative assembly of the Wyoming Territory, dated March 13, 1882, requests that Congress increase the salary of the members of the assembly from $4 to $6 per day. On March 20, 1882,
Morton Everel Post, a Delegate representing the Territory of Wyoming, introduced this memorial in the form of Enrolled Act No. 55 from the council of the Wyoming Territory. The salary had previously been $6 per day when Post first served in the Wyoming territorial legislature from 1878 until 1880, but had since been reduced by one-third. Post served as a Territorial Delegate to Congress from 1881 to March 1885. There were efforts afterward to appoint him as governor of the Wyoming Territory, but they were unsuccessful. Wyoming became a state in 1890, but the legislators' salaries were not increased before that happened.
