Memorial of Wyoming Territory

Description

This memorial from the legislative assembly of the Wyoming Territory, dated March 13, 1882, requests that Congress increase the salary of the members of the assembly from $4 to $6 per day. On March 20, 1882, Morton Everel Post, a Delegate representing the Territory of Wyoming, introduced this memorial in the form of Enrolled Act No. 55 from the council of the Wyoming Territory. The salary had previously been $6 per day when Post first served in the Wyoming territorial legislature from 1878 until 1880, but had since been reduced by one-third. Post served as a Territorial Delegate to Congress from 1881 to March 1885. There were efforts afterward to appoint him as governor of the Wyoming Territory, but they were unsuccessful. Wyoming became a state in 1890, but the legislators' salaries were not increased before that happened.
