WHEAT, James L., a Postmaster from Wisconsin; born in Bridgeport, Madison County, N.Y., March 22, 1840; United States Army, 1862–1865; coal dealer; elected Postmaster of the United States House of Representatives to the Fifty-first Congress until his resignation on October 1, 1890 (December 2, 1889–October 1, 1890); died on May 19, 1913, in Los Angeles, Calif.; interment at Mariposa District Cemetery, Mariposa, Calif.
