THOMPSON, John G., a Sergeant at Arms from Ohio; born in Millcreek, Union County, Ohio, on February 17, 1833; attended Marysville Academy; banker; businessman; treasurer, Franklin County, Ohio; member of the city council; member of the Ohio state senate, 1871–1874; appointed to the office of the state commissioner of railways and telegraphs; elected Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives for the Forty-fourth and for the succeeding two Congresses (December 6, 1875–December 5, 1881); died on February 10, 1886, in Seattle, Washington; interment in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
