POST, Reuben, a House Chaplain; born in Cornwall, Addison County, Vt., January 17, 1792; attended Addison County Grammar School College; graduated from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt., 1814; graduated from College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Princeton, N.J., 1818; D.D., College of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C., 1837; ordained in the Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., 1819; teacher; pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C., 1819–1836; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives to the Eighteenth and to the four succeeding Congresses (December 9, 1824–December 13, 1831); pastor, Circular Church, Charleston, S.C., 1836–1858; died on September 24, 1858, in Charleston, S.C.; interment at Circular Congregational Church Burying Ground, Charleston, S.C.
