Dak., July 25, 1931; graduated from Edison High School, Minneapolis, Minn.; B.A., Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn., 1953; M.Div., Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island, Ill., 1957; D.D., Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y., 1979; ordained in the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1958; pastor; assistant chaplain, United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., 1961–1965; chaplain, United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., 1965–1979; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives to the Ninety-sixth and to the ten succeeding Congresses until his resignation on March 23, 2000 (January 15, 1979–March 23, 2000); Chaplain Emeritus of the United States House of Representatives, 2000–2001; died on August 27, 2001, in Washington, D.C.
