DUNBAR, William M., a Postmaster from Georgia; born in Barnwell, Barnwell County, S.C., April 6, 1846; attended Augusta, Ga., schools; served in the Confederate Army, 1863–1864; attended school in Athens, Ga., for six months, circa 1865; brokerage clerk; steamboat purser, 1868–1870; treasurer of Richmond County, Ga., 1872–1882; entrepreneur; city recorder, Augusta, Ga., 1885–1889; appointed postmaster of Augusta, Ga., circa 1893–1901; elected Postmaster of the United States House of Representatives to the Sixty-second and to the three succeeding Congresses (April 4, 1911–May 19, 1919); died on November 6, 1925, in Augusta, Ga.
