CHANNING, William Henry, a House Chaplain; born in Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., May 25, 1810; attended Boston Latin School, Boston, Mass.; graduated from Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass., 1829; graduated from Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Mass., 1833; ordained in the Unitarian Church, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1839; minister, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1839–1841; editor; leader, Religious Union of Associationists, Boston, Mass., 1847–1850; preacher, Unitarian Society, Rochester, N.Y., 1854–1857; servant, Hope Street Chapel, Liverpool, England, 1857–1861; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives to the Thirty-eighth Congress (December 10, 1863–March 3, 1865); died on December 23, 1884, in London, England.
