Concise Biography

METCALF, Arunah, A Representative from New York; was born August 15, 1771; attended the common schools; moved from Connecticut to New York and settled in Otsego (now Cooperstown), in 1802; elected as a Democratic Republican to the Twelfth Congress (March 4, 1811-March 3, 1813); member of the State assembly 1814-1816; president of the Otsego County Agricultural Society in 1818; unsuccessful candidate for election to the State senate in 1819; again a member of the New York State assembly in 1828; died in Cooperstown, Otsego County, N.Y., August 15, 1848.
