The papers of George Mathews include a bond for trustees of an estate, giving some information on the administration of confiscated estates; appointment of Philip Milledge as tax collector for Chatham and Richland counties, Ga.; land grants; letter, 1794, from James Gunn, U.S. Senator from Georgia, concerning the danger of a war with Great Britain; bill for the hire of a slave; and a copy of a dissent by Gov. Mathews to an act of the Georgia legislature for disposing of unappropriated territory of that state, 1794.

A daybook, 1771-1775, for the Greenbriar general store, owned and operated by George and Sampson Mathews, of Augusta County, Virginia. Records purchase accounts and payments for sales of liquor, tobacco, hides, dry goods, hardware, and weapons and ammunition. The daybook also contains notes that the Mathews brothers operated stores at Staunton and Calf Pasture.
