JOHNS, Joshua Leroy, a Representative from Wisconsin; born in the town of Eagle, Richland County, Wis., February 27, 1881; attended the public schools; engaged in banking in Richland Center, Wis., 1902-1905; was graduated from the law department of the University of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1906 and from Yale University in 1907; was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1906 and commenced practice in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1907; was admitted to the Wisconsin bar in 1910 and commenced practice in Richland Center, Wis.; moved to Appleton, Wis., in 1920 and continued the practice of law; also interested in various business enterprises; colonel in the Wisconsin National Guard 1928-1929; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth and Seventy-seventh Congresses (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1943); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1942 to the Seventy-eighth Congress; resumed the practice of law in Green Bay, Wis., and also served as president of several lumber companies; died at Green Bay, Wis., March 16, 1947; interment in Fort Howard Cemetery.
