GRANTLAND, Seaton, a Representative from Georgia; born in New Kent County, Va., on June 8, 1782; pursued an academic course; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Milledgeville, Ga.; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1835-March 3, 1839); presidential elector on the Whig ticket in 1840; died at his home, "Woodville," near Milledgeville, Ga., October 18, 1864; interment in Milledgeville Cemetery.

Papers: 1855, 1 folder. This collection consists of a power of attorney from Seaton Grantland to John Milledge, 1855, and a stock certificate. The power of attorney states that John Milledge was to transfer 100 shares of Georgia RR and Banking Co. from Grantland's name to William B. Tinsley as Trustee for Susan M. Bailey. The stock certificate is for 100 shares of Georgia RR and Banking Co., originally made to Grantland on November 4, 1853, transferred to William B. Tinsley, Trustee for Susan M. Bailey, on January 4, 1856.
