Description

In this broadside, Great Britain’s King George III proclaimed the American colonies in rebellion following the early battles of the American Revolution. After years of burdensome regulation and taxation by the British government, tensions exploded into violence between the colonial militia and British soldiers. This broadside warned colonists that they were subject to the justice of the British military and others loyal to the crown. The proclamation marked the end of any hope for negotiated reconciliation between the colonists and Great Britain.
