On February 24, 1868, by a vote of 126 to 47, the House impeached President Andrew Johnson for high crimes and misdemeanors, marking the first time in the country’s history a chief executive was impeached. This broadside reproduced the signatures of each Representative and how they voted, possibly as a souvenir of the highly publicized and widely followed event. After a nearly two-month trial in the Senate, the President was acquitted by a single vote.
