The 1951 House Chamber renovation included new gallery seats of “noiseless construction, covered with blue and ecru colored fabric having a fretwork design containing alternate rows of five-point and six-point stars.” The original fabric was a silk cut and voided velvet. This seat cover of more recent vintage shows changes made over the years. The blue and ecru color combination remains, but a more durable moquette fabric was used. The rows of stars were eliminated from the textile’s design, leaving just the Greek-key fretwork pattern.
