A set of 72 trading cards of important American women—called the Supersisters—was the brainchild of Lois Rich in 1979. After her daughter asked why baseball cards included no women, Rich used a grant from New York State to produce the Supersisters. The cards each included a biography and quotation from the subject on the back, and a photograph on the front. They were numbered 1 to 72, and, according to Rich, “The women are presented in the order we received their permission.” Mary Rose Oakar was relatively quick to respond, judging by the 21 in the top right corner of her card.
