Aluminum smoking stands, large free standing ash trays, once were part of the vast number of tobacco accessories that punctuated corridors of the House Office Buildings. This example, made by Duk-It, was likely ordered for the newly opened Rayburn House Office Building around 1965, when the company shifted focus away from smoking accessories for the home to office products. The simple silhouette of this piece reflected the popular mid-century modern aesthetic.
