Object Details

Armed Services Committee Chairman Ron Dellums’ commanding presence is ably captured in his committee portrait. The first African American on the committee, Dellums dominates the foreground, and his silhouette is dramatically contrasted with the glow from a lunette behind. The window’s prismatic colors alludes to his involvement in the loose political alliance known as the Rainbow Coalition, while the column anchoring the painting’s right side nods to the public forum of civic discourse.
