Felix Edward Hébert represented a Louisiana district for 36 years. He began his career as a reporter, covering the corruption scandals that surrounded Governor Huey P. Long. His work led to awards for his New Orleans newspaper and a successful congressional campaign for Hébert. He rose to chair the Armed Services Committee for four years before he was ousted by Members unhappy with his approach to defense spending.
