In 1919, the Naval Affairs Committee met in Room 340 of the Cannon House Office Building. Committee Chairman Thomas Butler sits at the center of the top dais, just below Peace (The White Squadron in Boston Harbor), the monumental marine painting. This painting was first installed in the committee’s meeting space in the Capitol in 1900, and moved with them across the street to the Cannon House Office Building. Their room was further enhanced with torpedo shells and naval insignias on the lower dais.
