It is appropriate that one of Edith Green’s first campaign objects is a notepad. The daughter of schoolteachers, she championed education during her congressional career. Green left her mark on virtually every education bill that came out of Congress in her 20 years there, most notably Title IX, the portion of the Education Amendments of 1972 that prohibited discrimination against women in higher education.
