In 1933, the House Restaurant offered an array of delicacies, from pin-money pickles to Postum cereal. That year marked a few changes, however. Locked in a bitter price war with the Senate’s dining hall, the House lowered the cost of its famous bean soup to 15 cents, after accusations of overcharging. Throughout the 1930s, the restaurant was a convenient target for thrifty Members’ ire.
