A youthful Robert Winthrop—as he appeared during the period of his Speakership—is depicted in this portrait. Printed in Paris by lithographer Joseph Lemercier, it is one of five remaining small, oval-framed prints of Speakers in the House Collection. The acquisition date is unknown, but this print appears in stereoviews of the Capitol dating from the 1870s.
