In the late 19th and early 20th century, promotional materials such as this one for Wample Pharmaceuticals were not uncommon. Here, the company combined small images of 17 Speaker’s portraits—all labeled with names and dates of service—and a listing of “representative preparations” that the company provided. This combination of public figures and products appeared in tobacco cards, cigar labels, and magazine and periodical advertisements.
