The animated conclusion of the controversial Noyes-Rockwell election case for a New York district seat was illustrated in national periodicals. The House decided in favor of Hosea Rockwell, contradicting the recommendations of the Committee on Elections and stirring up accusations that “partisanship is stronger in the House than a sense of justice,” according to the New York Times. Rockwell is shown sitting calmly in the lower right, but his defenders are rather more emphatic in their reactions.
