Photographer Charles Bierstadt, brother of landscape painter Albert Bierstadt, specialized in stereo photography and produced popular and historic views for his own studio and later for the publisher Underwood and Underwood. The House Chamber was a staple image in stereoviews of Washington, D.C. This example shows the well-known portraits of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette flanking the Speaker’s rostrum.
