Massachusetts Representative George Loring’s carte-de-visite was produced by Boston’s Warren photography studio and most likely dates to before 1870. Bust-length portraits such as this were common among these widely distributed images which were small enough to fit on a calling card. It is also likely that Loring, who served in the Massachusetts state house and senate before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, used his carte-de-visite as campaign material.
