Workers polished an ornate clock in the House Chamber in preparation for the opening of the 76th Congress. The timepiece featured a gilded clock case modeled in 1857 by Joseph A. Bailly, a bronze eagle created by Guido Butti, and figures of a pioneer and a Native American by sculptor William H. Rinehart. The clock remained above the north entrance to the Chamber until its removal during the 1949–1951 renovation project.
