Inspired by her educator parents, Edith Green devoted much of her House service to education reform. She influenced such legislation as the Higher Education Facilities Act, which provided federal funding to improve colleges and universities, and the Higher Education Act, particularly the Title IX portion, which prohibited federally funded colleges and universities from discriminating against women. After leaving Congress, she taught at Warner Pacific College and served on the Oregon Board of Higher Education.
