Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr., headed from the Capitol to his new office in the Cannon Building after being sworn in as the newest Member from New York. Roosevelt, elected to fill the vacancy caused by Sol Bloom’s death, served in the House from 1949 until 1955. His later public service included stints as Undersecretary of Commerce for President Kennedy and chairman of the Equal Opportunity Commission under President Johnson.
