Kathryn E. Granahan succeeded her husband, William Granahan, in the House after his death in 1956. As chair of the Post Office and Civil Service Committee’s Subcommittee on Postal Operations, her legislative priority was to stanch the flow of pornographic materials delivered through the postal service. After leaving Congress in 1963, she was appointed Treasurer of the United States by President John Kennedy.
