Congressman Albert Engel showed photographers a billiard ball sent to him by a constituent. He kept it on his desk as reminder of his difficult position—always behind the eight ball—as a member of the Appropriations Committee. Engel served in the House from 1935 through 1950 when made an unsuccessful run to be governor of Michigan.This photograph shows the marks added by a newspaper editor cropping it for the next day's paper.
