Object Details
Gigi, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos’ poodle and a common sight in his office for many years, is one of several faithful dogs depicted in House Collection portraits. Lantos brought to the committee his perspective as a Holocaust survivor, resistance fighter, and economics professor. His background is echoed in his portrait. Adjacent to the large world map behind Lantos is an image of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg. Wallenberg set up the safe house in which Lantos hid during part of World War II and supplied a forged Swiss passport to Lantos’ future wife, Annette Tilleman, pictured in the photograph on the desk.
