This German print from the 1830s is based on a view of the Capitol’s East Front that was widely available through John Howard Hinton's The History and Topography of the United States, published in London at the beginning of the decade. Although it is likely that the engraver had not seen the Capitol firsthand, the print correctly emphasizes the most important elements of the building—its classical façade and the original low dome.
