Artist T. Dart Walker sketched many scenes of daily life in the Capitol for Leslie’s Weekly Illustrated in 1900. This image of the Reporters’ Gallery shows correspondents trading stories and scribbling notes concerning the lively debate far below them in the Chamber. The work is typical of Walker’s modern, impressionistic style, which often depicted events from unusual angles with the players seemingly unaware that they are observed.
